CC has reported cancellations of Mustanaami (Finland) and the Krønike/a editions in the last few months....

What do the Egmont readers think of the cancellations and also the new series? Would love some insight and thoughts from our Scandinavian phans..

Quote:
A previous Norwegian book series reprinted Phantom stories chronologically in the order they first appeared in Norway's Fantomet magazine. This book series ended with stories that were originally published in Fantomet in 1978. The proposed new series for 2011 will continue where this book series left off; with stories published in Fantomet from 1979 and onwards. The format will however be soft covers, and they will be distributed not only to book stores but to the same type of newsagents etc that carried the Krønike

The Norwegian cancellation of the Krönike isn't quite a cancellation tho... It's becoming a little bit more like the Swedish physical format of the book.

And available trough newsstands? AWESOME! :) Can't mean anything but good for Norwegian fans, as more people could find and pick it up with ease now.

The cancellation of MustaNaamio is a tragedy however... :( The Team Fantomen Phantom is gone from yet another country... Only 4 issues from #1000! Damn.

I can only hope that they will either return in 2012, or that someone else in Finland will pick up the license and go for gold.

I'm quite surprised to hear that Egmont Finland isn't doing well tho... Finland generally publishes far more comics than Sweden or Norway, and has generally seemed to have a better comics-climate than us, so this is quite puzzling... Maybe the economic crisis hit them slightly harder than it did us?

I don't know what you mean here, from what I can tell from the original announcement they are going from a format which is very much like the Swedish Krönika to a format that is something "between a comic magazine and a book". (And the Krønike has always been sold in newstands, like other comic books).
If there was something in the CC announcement that didn't make this very clear, I apologize cause I was the one who wrote that

As Predabot says, the situation is different for each country:
Finland: The last Phantom series cancelled, four issues away from 1000 issues. No plans for replacements yet, Phantom fans are encouraged to subscribe to Swedish Fantomen(!) instead. Situation: Tragic.
Norway: Fantomet continues as before, Krønike gets retooled into a new series. Situation: OK
Sweden: Fantomen continues as before. Annual Christmas albums and Hardcover reprints of old Fantomen issues still published. Fantomen Krönika cancelled and there has only been vague reports that something new might be coming next year. Situation: Uncertain but hopeful

Thanks for this, andreas. :) As always, you are concise & precise.
But series cancelled at #996, four away from 1000. ahhhhh, truly tragic.

Really? Krönika is cancelled? This is the first that I hear about this... :o

I certainly hope something new will come along next year to replace it. :\ Too bad it's going away. I kind of see how the new stories weren't so well-reprinted in that one tho, what with them being made for colour. They often looked less than they were meant to, in black and white.

Hopefully it'll be something cool... Like "the Ghost who Walks". Perhaps this time, it'll be Falk/Moore from the start, in COLOUR? That would be outstanding! :D Well... one can only hope.

To get an answer. Why is it any worse if the series stop now or wait four or six issues??
It is common to ask why when you don´t understand the meaning behind a sentence. What do you do when you what to know, blink an eye?? It is hard on the Internet!!

So, "why" it is!!

Yep, the final issue is out now. No specifics have been given about replacements (most likely no decision has been made yet, as the cancellation of the Krönika was decided very late, shortly before #100 was going to print). The possibility of something "new" in 2011 is vaguely mentioned in #100.

It's tragic regardless, but #1000 would have given some positive things that we will not see now. The final issue of Mustanaamio received a lot of media attention and was sold out within a few days. I would have hoped that an #1000 would have received the same media attention and boost in sales (as it did in Sweden and Norway) - but with more issues to follow for those who came back to reading Mustanaamio again. And regardless if that would have worked or not, 1000 issues is an impressive milestone. It is the nature of us who use the decimal numeral system to celebrate numbers like 10, 100, 1000 when the opportunity arises.

Would you celebrate a cansellation with issue 1000?? I know that we usually celebrate such "milestones", but when a decition is made for a cansellation the issue number is of no importance, and certainly nothing to celebrate.

If the last 1000th issue sold well, only an idiot would carry on with the book based on these figures. That would be like making next year's budged based on December figures.

I did not mean that #1000 would be the last issue, rather that Mustanaamio would have continued for all of next year, in which case #1000 would have been good promotion.

In any other situation than the current, a issue 1000 would be something!

...Yes , it is just traditional for comics magazines which deal in numbers prominently featured on the covers to make a big deal of a #100 , etc. - Frankly , in thecontemporary US comics world , it gets rather DECIDEDLY overdone at times :P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes , it has been known for a title to be cancelled on an announced-in-advance #100 , or #125 , or maybe just an issue or two past that...
Frankly , Ivan , you're just too sensible  , that's what you are !!!!!!!! :P   :)
