"The Great Basil"

In some of the earlier Mandrake stories, I recall madrake quoting that his father was another magician called "The Great Basil". This was in the days before Theron and the so-called 'College of Magic' were even introduced. So who really is Basil? Mandrake's foster father or just a figment his imagination?

The name change from Grando to Basil would make sense, since Falk used the name The Great Grando for a villain in another story.

And , is " Theron " close to this phrase - " Thetas " , or something , that Scientologists use ? Was Lee Falk a Scientologist ? ( I am not . )

"Thetans". Totally unrelated. Falk was not a Scientologist, phew.
