Does anybody know if FREW published Mandrake prior to the 1990 series :?:
If so when, how many and how long did the series run for :?:

I just had a look at my old Mandrakes and discovered that some of them are actually Australian. Most have pre-decimal prices so I think they are from the 1960s. Most of them also have covers by Keith Chatto. Stll not sure when the run started or finished though?

Come to think of it I do have a few australian mandrakes. at home, including some pre-decimal ones... here is the Australian portion of my Mandrake collection for those who are interested:

Code:
-- Super Comic Series (Australia) --
No. 16 ('Mandrake Discovers the City of Gold')

-- Consolidated Press (Australia) --
[1941] No. 02 (On The Stage, The Missing Pearls, Norvell's Revenge, In Hollywood, Mystery Of The Two Faces)

-- Gordon and Gotch (Australia) --
No. 15 ()
No. 28 ()
No. 29 ()
No. 33 ()
No. 37 ()

--Mandrake The Magician Album Edition (Australia) --
(Magicians Never Tell, Deadly Cobra, The Crystal Cube)

-- Budget Books (Australia) --
[1987] No. 1 Master of Illusion ('Spellbound', 'Lothar's Afternoon'  )
[1987] No. 2 Spellbinding       ('Might Magic', 'Masters of Disguise')

-- FREW (Australia) --
[1990-91]
No. 01
No. 02
No. 03
No. 04
No. 05
No. 06
No. 07
No. 08
No. 09
No. 10
No. 11
No. 12

I'm missing the dates on most of them, but from memory (I'm not near my collection right now), the G&G comics are from the 1960s.. The Super Comic Series was earlier, I think (again, from memory).

But as for FREW mandrakes prior to 1990... no idea.

I just found a date on one of my Australian Mandrake's: No 25, September 1957. Looking at the distributor it appears that it was produced in Melbourne. So there are at least two different series running in this period because other copies that I have are distributed by Gordon & Gotch (Sydney) the no's of these are: 17, 18, 28, 29, 37, 38, 39.

Also I just had a look at some of Jim's editorials for the 1990 series at it seems they were selling gangbusters, so it is dissapointing that they did not continue as we would now be up to about issue 400.
